SECOND AUTUMN MEETING. GAINSFID WINS HANDICAP [ Per Press Association. ) HASTINGS, April 7. The second autumn meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club was held today in fine weather before a good at tendance. The track was in good order. The totalisator handled £6854, against £7317 10s, a decrease of £463 10s. As a result of an inquiry in the President’s Handicap, R. Marsh, rider of Gainsfid, was suspended for one month for careless riding in interfering with Aesculus. Results were as follow: KARAMU HURDLES. (Of £7O; 1& miles). 2/2 —Manuiri, 11.12, Bowden 1 4/4—Million, 11.2, Walsh 2 1/1 —Kahunoke, 9.11, Thompson 3 Also.—3/3 Kimbo, 5/5 Cotsfield, 6/6 Ex Dono, 7/7 Wee Boy. Cotsfield and Kim’/j, together, led the field for a mile. Running to the last fence Manuiri went up to jump with Kimbo and Million and then drew away to win comfortably by three lengths from Million, with Kahunoke, half a length away, finishing fast. Time 2.43. TOMOANA ELECTRIC HANDICAP. (Of £6O; six furlongs). 2/3 —Maxae Quex, 8.7, B. H. Morris 1 2/2 —McHeath, 8.7, Atkins 2 1/1 —Seattle, 8.10, Horne 3 Also. —4/4 Marsong, 8/8 Winter Sport, 5/5 Bold Bill, 7/7 Heliotype, 6/6 Lady Wessex. Marae Quex was best away but Marsong soon took the lead. Coming into the straight Marae Quex came through to win easily by three lengths, while McHcath in the last stride beat the favourite by half a Lead. Lady Wessex was fourth. Time 1.15 3-5. JUVENILE HANDICAP. (Of £7O; 5% furlongs). 3/3 —Talari, 7.9, L. 11. Jones 1 2/2 —Arauline, 8.3, Horne 2 4/4 —Peggy’s Joy, 7.5, Gunn 3 Also. —1/1 Queen’s Pride, 5/5 Celerrimus. Queen’s Pride led for the first furlong when Talari took charge. Over the final stages Arauline challenged Talari winning by half a neck, with Peggy’s Joy two and a-half lengths away. The favourite was fourth. Time 1.9 2-5. PRESIDENT’S HANDICAP. £110; l/i miles. 2/3—GAINSFID, 8.9, Marsh 1 1/2—BLUE BOY, 8.4, B. H. Morris 2 5/S—EMOTION, 8.6, Atkins 3 Also.—4/6 Aesculus, 3/1 Stitch, 6/4 Sylvan Dell, 7/7 Anemometer. Gainsfid was best away, Aesculus getting cut out. Anemometer and Stitch made the running from Emotion half a mile from home, Aesculus making up a good deal of ground. Emotion led into the straight. Gainsfid and Blue Boy came through and Aesculus was almost down through jostling. Gainsfid beat Blue Boy by half a neck, with Emotion a head back and Stitch fourth. Time 2.6 3-5. AKITIO HANDICAP. (Of £7O ;one mile). 2/1 —Conference, 8.9, Marsh * 3/3 —Ties Sec, 8.7, Leach * 1/2 —High Grader, 8.6, Reed 3 *Dead-heat for first. Also.—s/4 Royal Shift, 6/6 Tycoon, 4/5 Dorado, 7/8 Hatuma, 8/7 Dusky Crown. The winning pair ran into a good position in the early stages. Tycoon took up the running from Conference, Hatuma and Tres See. Once straightened up the field swung into line, each looking likely. In a great finish Conference and Tres Sec deadheated, beating High Grader by half a length. Next came Hatuma and Royal Shift. Timo 1.41. TWYFORD HANDICAP. (Of £7O; six furlongs). 1/1 —Hunting Jay, 8.5, B. H. Morris 1 3/3 —Hybiscus, 7.12, McNaughton 2 4/4 —Grumpy, 8.7, Atkins 3 Also.—2/3 Sabatini, 5/5 Marae Quex. Grumpy led in the early stages, Hybiscus then taking charge. Hunting Jay joined the leader into the straight and the favourite ran on to win easily by three lengths. Grumpy was a similar distance away and Marae Quex was fourth. Time 1.4 1-5. OKAWA HANDICAP. (Of furlongsl).s 1 ). 2/I—SPEED, 8.12, B. H. Morris 1 3/3—SOUCHONG, 8.12, Reed 2 1/2—ROYAL HUNTING, 9.9, Atkins 3 Also. —7/6 Slippery, 4/4 (Julius, 8/8 Royal Bengal, 5/5 Hunting Day, 6/7 Stitch, 9/9 Sylvan Dell. Speed started well, Souchong afterwards taking the lead. Speed came through to win comfortably by one and a-half lengths from Souchong, with Royal Hunting two lengths back and Cullus fourth. Time
