RAETIHI CATTLE FAIR

A HEAVY YARDING GOOD SALE RESULTS A heavy yarding came forward at the Haetilii autumn cal tie fair on Friday. The auctioneers, Messrs Freeman R. Jackson and Company, report as follows: “Late entries brought the yarding up to 1900 in exYess of advertised numbers. There was an excellent attendance of buyers present from Hawcra, Waverlcy, Waitotara, Wanganui, Mangamaliu, the Parapara, Taihape, and the districts surrounding Raetihi. The sale was an excellent one except on fat cows and fat and forward bullocks and practically all the passings were confined to this tlass of cattle. There were more fat cattle, particularly cows, than the market could, absorb. Some very nice lines of fat and forward bullocks remained unsold, but we consider that the prices offered at the •closing bid were very fair value and we fail to see how the vendors will improve on the passed-in prices. A feature of the yarding was the quality of the cattle. We doubt if there is another district which has shown the marked improvement in the breeding during the last few years. Farmers arc to be congratulated on this improvement as one must remember that it has taken place during adverse and over a number of low-priced year?. Realisations wore:—Fat bullocks, £6 2s, £6 3s, £6 ss, £6 8s to £6 12s; fat cows, £3 ss, £3 8s 6d, £3 13s, £3 17s 6d, £4 to £4 8s; fat and forward bullocks, £5 10s, £5 12s 6d to £6 ss; bullocks (well bred), £4 17s, £4 1.95, £5. £5 5s to £5 6s; Holstein and crossbred bullocks, £.3 15s, £4, to £4 12s P.A. 3i-ycar steers £4 15s, £5, to £5 7s 6d; steers £3 15s to £4 ss; 2£-year steers £3 15s, £3 17s 6d, £3 18s to £4 Is; 20-month steers (few yarded) M £2 18s, £3 Is, £3 2s to £3 12s 6d; 20-monlh heifers £2 7s 6d, £2 9s to £2 15s; 24year heifers (Here. «.nd P-A.), £3. £3 5s to £.3 6s (id; forward 3-year P.A. heifers £3 10s, £3 14s to £4; good P.A. empty cows £2 12s 6d, £2 17s 6d to £3 2s 6d; store crossbred cows £1 10s, £2, to £2 10s; boner cows 20s, 22s 6d, 27s to 345; works bulls £1 10s, £2, £2 10s, £3 to £3 7s 6d; sound run bred bulls £3 10s to £4; small wcancr run bred heifers £1 5s to 32s 6d; m.s. woaners 335, 35s to £2 2s 6d; P.A. weancr steers 37s 6d to £2 3s. FEILDING CATTLE FAIR. The supplementary cattle fair was held on I’riday, and Dalget y and Co., Ltd., report a heavy yarding of all classes of cattle, and a fair entry of sheep. Ft sheexD ami lambs sold firmly at late rates, and store sheep wore in strong demand, and there was a total clearance under the hammer. Reflecting the easing in expo it rates, cattle prices came back definitely, particularly was this so with grown cattle. The demand, however, at the lower limits remained strong. Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report that at the weekly sale held in Feilding on Friday, a record yarding of cattle of all descriptions was penned. Jn all wo estimate a total yarding of 2800 head, buyers being present from as far north as Te Kuiti and from all parts of the Manawatu, Rangitikei and Taranaki districts. It was quite evident, more particularly in the big cattle, that prices if anything were going to bo in buyers’ favour, the reason for this being that the supply of big cattle, more particularly at Friday’s fixture. being really too many at the, moment for our local market to absorb. However, young cattle, especially straight bred 18-months and 24-year-old steers, sold particularly well. It i s quite evident that with the favourable season which we are experiencing. buyers are in quest of young •cattle to keep their pastures in order. Included in our own offering were yarded some particularly high-class 4-year-old station-bred cattle. In this section we were fortunate enough to top the market with a particular!v good line on account of Mr A. G. IL Mowbray, of Pakihikura at. £6 3s. Tn the vounger cattle sn.'t’on some very nice lines wore yarded, more particularly of 18-month and 24 year-olds. Kerr, of Feilding. at £4 7s, and again in the 18-month-old class wo probably sold one of the best lines of cattle in the yards on a'ecount of Air Bichard McDonald, of Ashhurst, al £4 Tn addition to the above, the following are some of our more important sales: On account F.
