RECORD OF ACHIEVEMENT

WANGANUI GROCERY FIRM. 30 YEARS OF STEADY PROGRESS. Wanganui citizens welcome progress, and the steady growth of the old-estab-lished grocery firm of Kernohan’s Ltd. over a period of more than 30 years has always been pointed to as definite proof of the ever increasing importance of Wanganui as a business centre. Alore than 30 years ago the late Air. John Kernohan founded the business on the present site in Guyton Street and the small premises in which the business was then conducted are well remembered by hundreds of old Wanganui citizens. Even at that time, when Wanganui was comparatively small, many of his friends told the late Air. Kernohan that ho was mistaken in commencing his business away from Victoria Avenue, but his reply, based on sound commonsense, was that people would go where they got value for their money. The fact that to-day the firm has no less than 20 Wanganui citizens in its employ is convincing enough evidence of the soundness of his judgment. Some little time ago a programme of extensive alterations, based on confidence in the future of this city, was decided upon, and the whole store was modernised and brought completely up-to-date. A sum of more than £lOOO was expended in Wanganui in carrying out this work and to-day the claim is made that Kernohan’s is the best-equipped jstore in Wanganui. Certainly the interior is most attractive—lighting throughout is of the very latest, and the whole of the floor space is covered with cork linoleum. The provision counter, too, is most outstanding—refrigeration ensures perfect conditions for all bacon, provisions, butter and perishable goods, while an electric slicing and hacking bacon machine makes it possible to serve all bacon, cooked ham, etc., without its being touched by hand.

Those who have not already visited this modern store are cordially invited to do so, and see for themselves just, what progress has been made in 'the matter of hygienic handling of foodstuffs in recent years.*
