ASSAULT ON WOMAN
MAN SENT TO GAOL [ Per Press Association. | WELLINGTON, Feb. 8. “It is essential that our women should be protected, and that they should be able to walk on the streets without being subject to assaults of this sort,” said Mr Justice Ostler, in the Supreme Court, sentencing Ronald Donaldson, labourer and miner, 25, to 14 days’ hard labour for assaulting a young woman near the nurses’ home in December last. Donaldson was charged with indecent assault and common assault, hut was found guilty by the jury on the second count only, with a strong recommendation to mercy.
