TAIHAPE TRAINS

Sir, —Will you, through the valuable space of your paper permit me to draw attention to what appears to me as a necessity for this and surrounding dis tricts. Recently a circular arrived in this town, advocating a late train from Taihape on Saturday nights so that a few pleasure seekers may enjoy nti

evening at tho Taihape pictures, and before the authorities give this matter their consideration I would like to draw their attention to something which 1 think is of far more import ance than the late train on Saturday nights as far as train service goes,— the school children have just completed their Proficiency examination, and many of their parents may not be in a‘ position to send them to a college or Technical School, for the boarding accommodation is just beyond them, and as there is a goods train passing through Mangaweka about 8 a.m. every morning, would it be asking too much if wo asked that a school children's carriage be put on this train so as to convey thc children to the Taihapo High School? The train’s time table is perfect, arrives at Taihape about, the right hour. Then there is the usual afternoon train from Taihape again leaving Taihape at the right hour. All that is required is thc extra carriage, being put on the goods train in the morning. If the children are debarred from a year or so at a secondary school jus 4 because their parents cannot afford the paying of their board at a boarding school, it is, 1 think, too bad. Perhaps this letter will be sufficient to stir a little interest in this direction, there are surely others thinking in the same direction.—l am, etc., “PROGRESS MANGAWEKA.”
