TAWHERO SCHOOL

ANNUAL CONCERT HELD. PARENTS’ KEEN INTEREST. Marked by enthusiasm on the part of the children and keen interest on the part of the parents and supporters of the school, the annual concert of the Tawhero School was held in the Gonvile Town Hall last night, the general opinion at the conclusion being that it was one of the most successful concerts ever hel don behalf of the school. The attendance was excellent and applause throughout was generous, the audience being evidently delighted with the quality of the entertainment. At the conclusion of the programme the headmaster, Mr. W. P. Williams, thanked the performers and also expressed appreciation of the assistance of Miss Hughes Johnston, Miss Lucie Broadhead and Miss Robertson, whose pupils had provided items for the programme. Mr. Williams also paid a tribute to the lady members of the Tawhero School staff, whose efforts in arranging the programme had been attended by such splendid results, while the parents wore also to be thanked for their loyal support. An invitation was extended to all to attend the “break-up” and presentation of prizes, which will take place at 11 o’clock to-morrow morning. Caldwell;-playette, 11 Happy Man’s Shirt,” Standard I; violin solo, Gavin Barwick; “The Dolls’ Christmas,” infants; toe dance, Mona Crothers; piano solos, (a) Lucy Goldsbury; (b) Myra Healey; folk dances, (a) “Merry-go-round, (b) “Dancing Land,” infants; recitation, “The Old Sailor,” Desmond Smith; Irish jig, Fay Smith; piano solo-s, (a) Betty Caldwell, (b) Florence Jackson, (c) Pauline Hawkins; acted poem, “The Little Black Hen,” Standard I; tap dance, Tlema Dandy; recitation, “Lovely”; Colin Caldwell; violin solo, Gavin Munro; recitation. “The Good Little Girl.” Betty Hicks; violin solo, Thelma (Dandy; fancy dance, Mona Crothers; mouthorgan duet, Lucy Goldsbury and Joan McFarland; toe dance, Thelma Dandy; chorus, “Come to the Fair,” upper classes; recitation, “Trade Winds,” Bay Berthold; chorus, “Hail Smiling Morn,” upper classes; playette, “Little Miss Muffett,” Standards II and 111.
