W.C.T.U.
Alcmorial Day was celebrated at the monthly meeting of the Wanganui E. W.U.T.U. on Wednesday in St. Alban’s Hall. There was a fair attendanej of members, and the following sent apologies: Mesdanics Andrew, Shute, Hedges, Spurdie and Sutton. A temperance fact was given by Airs. Horsley in which it was pointed out that Dr. Leon Daudet said “I consider cocktails to be frightful poisons, equal if not superior in their harmful efforts to morphine and cocaine.” The Medical World, is turning its attention to this question. A new pathological type, cocktailosis, is on its way.” It was decided to send a letter of sympathy to Airs. Tasker, in the sad loss of her little son who was accidently killed. Alcmbers were pleased to learn that Miss A. AlcLay, adult organiser, would be in Wanganui district next month, and would be present (D.V.) at next meeting. Rev. H. G. Goring was the speaker for the meeting and gave a very interesting address on “Memorial Day.” The names of the late T. E. Taylor, John Dawson, R. S. Gray, F. Isitt, Mcsdames Cole, Scott and others, who were pioneers in the cause of prohibition were remembered. The speaker urged all to continue steadfastly in the great work started so many years ago by men and women who willingly sacrificed their lives for the cause so near and dear to their hearts. The speaker pointed out that leaders must have followers, many of them being unknown yet well known.” Mesdames Day and Hoislcy were ap pointed hostesses for the August meeting.
Afternoon tea and the Benediction closed a profitable meeting.
