WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Women’s institute was held on Tues-] day night, Airs. A. K. Drew presiding ! ove. a large attendance of members, a good number of visitors were also . present. The meeting was opened with the Ode to Friendship, whicii was fol- ! lowed by tho Creed, led by Airs. J. W. Alasters. A short community sing | was held. Mrs. Drew then introduced ! Miss Ruth Fawcett, Central Norin Island, representative of the British and Foreign 'liiblo Society, and said that all would welcome the opportunity o. hearing something of the work of the society. Aliss Fawcett expressed her appreciation of the hearty welcome accorder her. It was the first time she had attended, an institute meeting and would take away with her a very favourable 1 impression. Continuing, Miss Fawcett I gave an interesting talk ou the work I of the society and at the conclusion j was accorded a very hearty vote oi I thanks. , Mrs Drew then called on Air. G. ' Francis to demonstrate the seating with I seagrass. Air. Francis exhibited sev- i oral varieties of weaving and those who had brought stool frames to work ' on, were able to choose a design and j commence work under tho direction oi ' Mr. Francis, who was accorded a i hearty vote of thanks. A competition for the best bullion j roses was won by Miss P. Fagan. Aliss | A. E. Eagan and Aliss P. Williams tied | for second, and Airs. J. Fagan was third. A penny competition organised by Mrs. Cossum was won by Airs. T. Murphy. The winner of the competition for tho baby’s outfit was won by Aliss T. Francis. The hostesses for the evening were Alesdames J, Palmer, L. Sadler, A. C. Vile, Misses P. Fagan, F. Palmer, and E. Galbally. TE KAWAU RUGBY SUB-UNION. Competition games arranged for Saturday will bo as follows: Senior. Bongotea v. Taikorca at Rongotca. Mr. E. Moffatt. Awahurj v. Orona Downs at Awa- 1 huri. Air. 8. Reeve. Ohakea v. Alakowhai Camp at Ohakea. Air, A. Simeon. Junior. Taikorca v. Rongotea at Kaimatarau. Mr. J. Bennett. Huia v. Awahuri at Rongotea. Mr. A. Castles. Oroua Downs win by default from Ohakea. Sandon have a bye. Thirds.

Awahuri v. Ohakca at Awahuri at 1 p.m. Bandon, players are asked to assemble for practice at the Recreation Ground at 2p.m. With three games played in the senior competition Oroua Downs are leading with 6 points. Rongotea 4, Awahuri 4, Taikorea 2, and Ohakca 2 follow in order. Among the juniors Awahuri have 6 points, Huia 4 (with a game to play), Bandon 4, Oroua IDowns 2, Rongotea 2. Next Saturday’s games should produce some thrills. The Rongotea v. Taikorea game at Rongotea and the

Awahuri v. Oroua Downs game nt Awahuri should be even contests. If the camp team is as good as reported, they should keep the Ohakea team busy on the latter club’s ground. The Huia v. Awahuri (junior) game at Rongotea will give an indication of the final result of the junior competition. Rongotca should be able to account for the Taikorca team at Kaimatarau.
