WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. At the monthly meeting held on Tuesday Mrs. R. H. Guthrie, presided over tho usual very good attendance. Two letters of thanks for donations were received from members of the Willard Home Committee. Arrangements were completed fof the birthday to be held on Friday and some of the folk dances were practised. Airs. Haythorno announced that she wished to donate the money for her prize in the potato competition, to the Glee Circle, this statement being received with acclamation. Tho demonstration for tho afternoon was given by Airs. R. Worsfold of Ohingaiti. She showed, members how to prepare the wool and make an eiderdown from fleece wool, how to cover electric light shades, and also how to cover small glass dishes and make handsome powder bowls. The competition “Something new from something old,” drew quite a number of entries. Prizes were awarded as follow:—Mrs. AlcMillan (who had made a mat of pieces of old silk stockings, and an old singlet), Airs. Jenkins (who had made a gardiniere of broken pieces of crockery stuck onto an old basin), Miss P. Rielly (who had made a dress from an old costume). The demonstration for the June meeting is yet to be arranged, and there will bo a competition for the best old photograph taken in this district. The hostesses will be:—Alesdames Melrose nnd Kreger, and Alisses A. AfcKcnzie, M. Kreger and G. Morgan. Birthday Evening. Once more tho hall wag crowded to its utmost, when, on Friday evening, the institute members entertained their families and friends, at their second birthday. Visitors were present from Kimbolton, Apiti and Mangaweka Institutes and also from Ohingaiti.. The hall had been tastefully decorated with lycapodeum and flowers. And on a table in front of the stage was the birthday cake, which had been beautifully iced by Airs. Haythorne. The evening’s entertainment commenced with the members singing the Ode, after which several minutes of community singing were enjoyed. WAIRAKEI RIFLE CLUB. Members of the above club held a shoot on Baturday for the AfcGrcgor Cup Tho weather conditions were very favourable, and consequently some very good scores were put on. Seven shots were fired at each range. The individual scores were:—
