SLUMS IN BRITAIN

PRINCE APPALLED. APPEAL TO CORPORATIONS. LONDON, May 17. Speaking at the Guildhall with considerable emotion, the Prince of Wales appealed to the Association of Muncipal Corporations to lead a national campaign to sweep away the slums, which were a blot and disgrace to the national life. Ho added: “Slums must not be considered homes for the coming generation. I have personally inspected many and was appalled that such conditions could exist in a civilised country. My experience shows that, given decent conditions slum dwellers would rise to their opportunities. Ninetyeight thousand fynilics of five occupy two rooms or less.”
