OBITUARY MR CHARLES BARTRAM. After a long and painfull illness borne with great fortitude, Mr Charles Orlando Bartram passed away at the Taihape Public Hospital on Wednesday evening, at the age of 51 years. Born and educated in Christchurch, the late Mr Bartram entered the railway service soon after he had completed his education and remained in the service until last November when he retired on superannuation after 32 years’ service to his credit. He was stationed at various towns in the south and later, the North Island and camo to Taihape 21 years ago and remained here ever since. Deceased was well known, highly respected, and very popular, both in and out of the railway service, and his passing will bo deeply and widely regretted. He was interested in all kinds of sport, especially football and was a regular attender at Rugby matches in Taihape. He was also an enthusiastic bowler and figured prominently in competitions conducted by the Taihape Bowling Club, Deceased was also a member of the Otaihapo Men’s Club.. His many fine qualities and bright and cheerful manner gained for him the esteem and affection of all those with whom he came in contact, and it goes without saying that he will be greatly missed. He leaves a widow and three sons— Messrs Eric, Cyril and Frederick Bartram—and one daughter—Mrs F. Buckley. The funeral will leave St. David’s Presbyterian Church at 2.30 p.m. to-day (Friday), for the Taihape ‘cemetery.” GENERAL NEWS A general meeting of the Pirates Football Club was held on Tuesday evening chiefly for the purpose of ascertaining whether the club has sufficient players to carry on in the senior and junior competitions. It was reported that the club had 17 senior and junior players, and it is hoped that in future the club will not have the same difficulty in fielding a senior team that it has experienced during the past few weeks. The meeting was presided over by Mr J. Bridson (president). There was a large and enthusiastic attendance and this augurs well for the future. A.O.F. COURT RANGATAUA. There was a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of Court. Rangataua A.0.T., held in the Oddfellows’ Hal! on Tuesday, May 2. C.R. Bro. Scott presided The sick nt present on the fund were reported on. Bro. White was elected the new secretary in place of Bro. Jarvis, who has left Taihape. Bro. Dillon was elected J.B. in place of Bro. White. On the motion of Bro. Nicholson it was decided to write a letter of appreciation to Bro. Jarvis for the services
