The Australian Universities’ Rugby team opened its New Zealand tour today with a match against Auckland University fifteen, at Eden Park. *A high-scoring game resulted in tho visitors suffering defeat by 27 points to 23. They were a little unlucky in not finishing on even terms with the home side. The match was played in fine weather before an attendance of 8000. Play was fast, open and exciting from begininning to end. The ball had been little more than set in motion before Westfield, the Australian full-back, opened the scoring with a fine “dropped” goal from near half way. Auckland then took the-lead with a converted try within five minutes of the start, and, at half time, hold a lead of one point. Scoring kept changing throughout the second spell, and the spectators were kept in a state of constant excitement.
