ANNIVERSARY BIRTHDAY SOCIAL AND DANCE.

The anniversary birthday social and dance held by the Palais de Dance in celebration of their first birthday on Tuesday evening, amid the pleasant surroundings of the Druids’ Hall, was an outstanding success, and the spacious floor of the popular hall was fully taxed to accommodate tho large assemblage of patrons and friends. The programme of old-time and modern dances was interspersed by vocal and instrumental items, and during the evening a respite was called to cut the three-tier birthday cake, surmounted by its solitary candle, and around which all present gathered, while Mrs. Gilroy snr., performed the ceremony of cutting tho first slice. Mr. Bert Gilroy, as Master of Ceremony, thanked the Palais de Danse patrons for their support and co-opcration during tho past 12 months and expressed tho committee’s hope that it would continue to receive a fair share of their patronage for the ensuing terpsichorean season. Tho items contributed were:—lnstrumental trio, Miss Jean Mutton (piano) and Masters Noel Grant (violin) and Barry Trussell (xylophone); exhibition lancing, Miss Jean Mutton; song, Mr. Roberton; Pipes o’ Pan solo, Mr. Leslie; song, Mr. Sid Kendall. The Monto Carlo waltz, the main feature of all dance functions was won by Mrs. Mcßride and Mr. Leslie and Miss K. McGinniski and Mr Kenny who were applauded upon receiving their prizes from Mr. Gilroy. Supper, at which a piece of the anniversary birthday cake was presented, was served in a number of sittings. The Gaiety Dance Band, under the direction of Mrs, Kendall, supplied music which was of a high standard, and contributed in no small measure to the success of the evening, which was, by special announcement, brought to a conclusion with tho singing of “Auld Lang Syne” when the hour of 1 a.m. had been reached.
