Seas (N.Z. waters): Heavy south of East Cape, elsewhere rather rough to rough. Eastern Tasman Sea: Strong southerly winds and rough seas, but moderating somewhat. Weather: Mainly fair in western districts, elsewhere still unsettled with showers at times, more especially on the east coast and in the far north. Temperatures cold with many frosts, and on the ranges snow and showers. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill, report for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. vesterday. Bright sunshine, 4 hours 50 minutes. Tainfall, trace. Shades temperature: Maximum, 57 deg. Fahr.; minimum, 39 deg. Fahr. Phases of the Moon.—May: First quarter, May 3.
