RIFLE ASSOCIATION KING’S BIRTHDAY TOURNAMENT Arrangements for the annual one day to be held on Juno 3 were made at the annual meeting of the Patca Rifle Association held last Monday night, Mr C. R. Honeyfield presiding over an excellent attendance of members. Two programmes for the meeting on Juno 3 were submitted, one by the secretary, Mr C. H. Carey, and the other by an ex-King’s Beltman, Mr D. Roots. These two programmes had been submitted to Messrs E. King and D. Luxford, of Wanganui, for outside opinions, and those obtained had supported different programmes. In support of his programme Mr Carey said that the times warranted a reduction of fees, and did not justify an elaborate programme. Ho doubted very much if any club paid out as much prizo money as one day’s shooting as Patca. Air Roots, in stating why he advocated an increased prizo list, said that at the last annual meeting a pessimistic attitude had been taken. With the good day last June, excellent entries had been received, doubtless due to the good prizes offered by the club. His programme was ono which would appeal to every rifleman in tho Do- , minion, involving as it did a prizo list of £235 10s. His submitted scheme permitted 75 per cent, of tho competitors partaking in the prizes if there was an even distribution, and ho felt sure that 50 per cent, would partake in any case. In supporting Mr Roots’ scheme, Mr J. O. Cunningham pointed out that a competitor had 13 more chances in each match for the expenditure of the added 3s. Mr 8. Macdonald, also in support of this programme, said that in the smaller programme it would only need three crack shots in each of tho visiting clubs to take all the money, and the average shots would have no chance. Air Roots pointed out that it would be imperative for teams entering tor the teams’ match to record their entries before tho shooting commenced Unanimous support was accorded Air Roots’ programme when the schemes were put to tho meeting. Closing day was fixed for Afay 31, and other arrangements made, Alessrs Cunningham and Honcyfield being appointed as a targets and range committee. Annual Report. The annual report stated: “In submitting the report of the 1932 meeting of this association the executive advised that the meeting was a success from every standpoint. The balance of £l6 Ils 2d, is very satisfactory. Ninety one competitors took part, all speaking very highly of the manner in which the meeting was conducted. The intro- . duction of the ladies’ match was very successful. No less than 11 ladies competed and the majority of them received a fair share of the prizo money. “Although the first prize of £2O was offered for the teams match, this did not meet with the response that was expected, only nine teams nominating. This match cost the association £8 15s despite the fact that the prize money was cut by £ll. “Tho thanks of the association arc due to tho Wavcrley Rifle Club for a further donation towards the funds. Tho success of the meeting was largely due to tho chief executive officer, Mr P. S. Finlayson, who has tho happy nack of getting the best out of the competitors, and the shooting off expeditiously, and to him we extend our sincere thanks. “The statistical officers know their jobs and tho prize lists were made up in good time, enabling tho prize money being practically all paid out, very little having to be posted. We wish also to thank the Borough Council for providing a parking area. Hearty thanks were accorded to Alessrs D. Quickendcn and E. Thompson for donations of the grand aggregate medal and tyro aggregate trophy, respectively, and all who had assisted to make tho meeting such an outstanding success.” A credit balance of £l2O 18s 4d was reported on tho annual balance-sheet, which was adopted with the annual report.
