GOLD HOARDING

The Daily Express’ City editor says that world-wide gold hoarding is gain ing momentum. Peasants in Holland are purchasing gold over the bank counter like cheese, and to check speculation the Dutch banks have pul a ban on forward dealings in guilders, except in respect to trade transactions fclany speculators believe that Hol land will be forced off gold, though the bank notes are covered by gold to the extent of 90 per cent., and almost, every debt entered into by Holland is spcifically stated to be on a gold basis. On tho contrary, trade between Hol land and the East Indies colonics has been heavily hit by the fall in coni modify prices and the Hitler regime has caused the suspension of practic ally all the Dutch exports to Germany.
