LABOUR LEADER RESIGNS
JOIN’S OPPOSITE PARTY. NEW SOUTH WALES INCIDENT Mr J. F. White, an outstanding organiser of the Labour Party in New South Wales for the past 25 years, has resigned his membership of the Australian Labour Party and joined the Country Party. His decision was announced at a deputation affecting the unemployed which waited upon the i Premier, Mr Stevens, at Dubbo recently. Mr White said that the honest attempt of the Government to deal with unemployment in New South Wales had led to his conversion. “This Government,” he said, “has done more for the workers than any Labour Government. One piece of legislation alone — the Farmers’ Relief Bill—has been responsible for finding work for more than 2000 local unemployed in the Dubbo district. There arc only 270 men remaining to bo absorbed.” The decision of Mr White created a stir at Dubbo. It is realised that owing to his high organising capacity and personal appeal the Labour Party has won many scats at elections. Tn an interview. Mr White said: “The facts must be faced.
