Meteorological Office, Wellington, Monday, May 8, 4 p.m. General Situation.—An intense anti-cyclone still covers .Eastern Australia, while pressure is low over and east of New Zealand. Forecast.—Winds: Strong south-west to southerly winds to gales, gradually moderating considerably. Seas (N.Z. waters): Heavy north of Ka'whia and in the far south, elsewhere rough. Eastern Tasman Sea: Strong southerly winds to gales and heavy seas, moderating gradually. Weather: Cold, squally and changeable with heavy showers at times in most districts, though rather scattered in tho lower levels. Hail likely in places and snow on tho ranges. Improving somewhat tomorrow’. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill, report for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday. Bright sunshine, 4 hours 30 minutes. Rainfall, .03 inches. Shades temperature: Maximum, 55 deg. Fahr.; minimum, 45 deg. Fahr. Phases of the Moon.—May: First quarter, May 3. Full moon, May 11; Last quarter, May 17; New moon, May 24.
