HUTT ROAD SMASH
CAR AND BUS COLLIDE WOMAN BADLY INJURED WELLINGTON, May 6. A spectacular collision between a light motor-car and one of the Railway Department’s heavy passenger buses occurred on the Hutt Road shortly before 8 o 'clock this morning. The car, which was practically new. was struck broadside on by the bus. and was completely wrecked. The driver of the car. Miss T. C. Austin, who lives at 104 Hutt Road, was fortunately the only occupant. The car was struck on the left-hand side, which was smashed in. and the force of the shock was sn great that the righthand side of the car was also wrecked. Miss Austin received injuries to her head and was removed to hospital by the Free Ambulance. Her condition is reported to be serious. The accident occurred opposite the Hutt Road oil stores. Miss Austin’s car was coming in to Wellington, and the bus was going to the HuU. It appears that Miss Austin’s car skidded broadside across the road and in front of the bus. No damage was done to the bus.
