DISARMAMENT
GERMANY AT GENEVA 4 WOULD AMEND CONVENTION THE CLAIM FOR EQUALITY ( British OfflciaJ WirataM. ) RUGBY, May 5. Germany amendments to the British Draft Convention now before the Disarmament Conference, published at Geneva this afternoon, demand a recofnation of the right of Germany U equality of armaments in event of &• further reduction in the arms of other Powers; also the abolition of submarines and of naval and military aircraft. The hope is expressed that a reduction in the naval armaments of big naval Powers will be brought about by 1935 failing, which Germany will demand equality with other nations. In the meantime, Germany will keep her arms within the limits of the Versailler Treaty. The Bureau will discuss the German amendment on Monday. Captain Anthony Eden, Under-Secre tary for Foreign Affairs, returned tc London from Geneva this morning and conferred with Ministers on the present position of the Disarmament Conference, at which he is chief British delegate. He returns to Geneva on Sunday. Mr. Norman Davis, the United States delegate to the Conference, held conversations with the Prime Minister to-day, and will return to Geneva with Captain Eden.
HERRIOT’S RETURN
IMPORTANT STATEMENT. Received Mav 7, 5.5 p.m. PARIS, May 5. M. Herriot, on his arrival from New York, was greeted by M. Paul-Bon-cour and other Minister. He said that Mr. Roosevelt was willing, in the event of an act of aggression, to renounce neutrality if the nations agree at Geneva over disarmament.
