SALES OF THE WEEK

The Farmers’ Co-operative Organisation Society of New Zealand, Limited, report that very heavy rains have been experienced throughout Taranaki this last week, wintry conditions setting in along with it. Most farmers will be thankful for having taken full advantage of the prolific growth experienced during the last six months to make ample provision to tide them over the next few months.

During the week an improvement was manifested in European conditions. As a result most markets have shown a slight but wekome rise. The recent Sydney wool sales showed an even further hardening tendency. Both the butter and cheese markets during the week have firmed and offers are more numerous. Business has been of a very limited nature, confining itself mostly to the yards. The enquiry for in-calf heifers, which usually at this time of the year is of some magnitude, this year is very spasmodic. We report the sale of a line of two-year-old heifers at £4 17s 6d. fairly keen enquiry has existed during the past week for dairy herds, and we have been successful in disposing of two, one herd of 40 cows at £6 and another of 35 at £5 15s.

Fat Sheep.—We report tho sale of numerous trucks of fat ewes which arc becoming harder to procure. Values have been from 8s to 9s. and show a firming tendency. Wethers ar c mure easily procured at values from 14s to 15s 6d.

Store Sheep.—A demand exists for store wethers, quotes of which are hard to procure, also for fattening ewes. A slight enquiry has set in for in-lamb ewes, but little business in this lino has been in for in-lamb ewes, but little business in this line has been transacted.

Fat Cattle—The demand for fat cows and heifers has limited itself to butchers’ requirements, and values have not altered from tho past week. Best fat heifers realise up to £5, with lighter sorts from, £4/7/6 to £4/10/-. Best fat cows from £4/5/- to £4/10/Fat <cows from the dairy which are meeting with keen competition at most of our sales realise from £3 to £3 10s.

Store Cattle.—The enquiry for store cattle has eased off slightly during the week, most requirements being filled. Little business has been transacted in the weaner heifer market.
