YOUNG MEN'S SOCIAL CLUB “Brethren, we are gathered here for the purpose of dedicating and opening this room to the glory of God and for the furtherance of His work, social, moral and physical and forasmuch as we can do no good thing without His gracious favour, and continued help, let us humbly and heartily pray for His blessing on this our understanding.” With these words Rev. H. Harris dedicated for the use of the newlyformed Young Men’s Social Club, an upstairs room in the Parish Hall, recently constructed for this purpose.

The room was built by Mr. Al. Jarvis with the assistance of Messrs. C. Awdrey, T. Jones and Rev. H. Harris, ihe timber was kindly donated by Mr. W C. Gregory. Mr. S. Keats was responsible for the painting of the room. Some 60 persons attended the dedication and opening cerehiony on Tuesday evening when Rev. ’ Harris explained that the object of the formation of a Young Men’s Club in Taihape was to cater for the physical, social, moral and spiritual needs of young men. He pointed out that all young men, regardless of faith or creed would be welcomed to the club, but he wished to make it clearly understood that those who were not members of the Anglican Church and wished to join the club should first of all obtain the consent of their minister. n conclusion the speaker announced that a dance in aid of the funds of the club would be held on September 8. Following Rev. Harris’ address Rev. R. Tapp read a portion of scripture. Rev. G. B. S. White, during the course of a short address, said that the club might be the means of many lasting friendships being made. After the dedication service a wide variety of games were enjoyed and the time passed all too quickly. A tasty supper was very .auch appreciated The floor was cleared for dancing towards the end of the evening, which was a great success from every point of view. MAJESTC THEATRE “The Yellow Ticket,” an absorbing drama of Czarist Russia, featuring Lionel Barrymore and Elissa Landi, will be finally screened at the Majestic to-night (Monday). Walter Byron plays a leading role in the Fox production, “The Y r ellow Ticket,” featuring Elissa Landi, Lionel Barrymore and Laurence Olivier. He plays the role of Count Nikolai, a weak and scheming tool of the head of Russia’s secret police. Miss Landi enacts the role of the young girl, persecuted by the police and Barrymore appears as the cruel monstex who oppresses her. Olivier has the role of the handsome hero who saves the girl after she has been sentenced to an unmentionable fate.

“Te Yellow Ticket” is a thrilling drama in a Russian background, but does not lack for romance. It was directed by Raoul Walsh from the internationally famous play of Michael Morton, which was adapted fo? the screen by Jules Furthman, who also wrote the dialogue in collaboration with Guy Bolton.
