FAILURE TO ATTEND DRILL

AN INTERESTING CASE [ Per Press Aasociatlm.] WELLINGTON, July 29. Tho first case of a man failing t<r attend drill parades called by the Canterbury Division of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve was heard to-day, when the magistrate (Mr. Mosley), after hearing evidence, adjourned the further hearing for three months to enable defendant, William Leonard Gebbe, to prove that he was willing to abide by his contract. For the prosecution, a petty officer said that when men made a contract to join tho Division they were issued with a kit and equipment, valued at £lO. It was a serious matter to default from parades as tho money spent on the kit was practically wasted. The magistrate pointed out that defendant was liable to three months’ imprisonment or a fine of £2O.
