W.D.F.U.

A sewing bee will meet on Monday to make quilts with the material supplied by Mrs. N. G. Armstrong, ami members wishing to help are asked to come along to the W.D.F.U. rooms. The wool to pad the quilts has been given by the Manganiahu farmers, and the management of the Woollen Al ills has scoured it free of charge. Airs. White, of Alangamahu, will be present to show the ladies the best method 01 making the quilts. The Women’s Division members have been busy niak ing singlets for the men in the camps and already three large parcels have been sent out.

They look a very nice lot too. I think the Book Club is a splendid institution for everyone away back from a town library. It will soon be springtime when one does not have much time for reading, but a peep into a book on a busy day is very restful.” CARD AFTERNOON. A 4 4 500” card afternoon was held on Wednesday by members of Gonville Croquet Club. Prizes were won by Mrs. Hoar and Mrs. Uttley. Next Wednesday instead of the usual “500,” a bridge afternoon will be held at Airs. Wood’s “Wharerata” Alma Road. DANCE AT FOBDELL. In aid of the Church of England funds the Okirae and Fordell settlers have arranged a dance which will take place in the Fordell Hall on Thursday next, August 4. The dance music will be supplied by the River City Syncopators’ Orchestra.
