Christie, deputy Mayor, was eelcled I<> the chair. He read tho qualifications for voters ami stated 17 nominal ionhad been received for nine vacancies. Voting papers had been printed with the names in order of rotation as the nomination- had been received by the chairman of the late committee. Mr. M. Aldohan. one of the old committee who was not nominated for re election gave the reasons for the action of the committee. Airs. McCready asked il the ballot was to be ft secret one. One of the previous committee said he had seen the papers after the last election. Alessrs. J. Coleman, M. Moohan. W F. Mahony, T. A. Blyth and F. Pearce were appointed scrutineers. The voting resulted as follows: IL Shields, 123; H. W. Pearce, 102; W. H. J. Boswell. 98; L. W. Nation,. 98; J. R. France, 96; W. J. Proffiitt, 93; P. T. Henson, 93; C. Guilder,- 92; \\ . L. Briggs. 62; H. B. Mclntyre, 60; J. F. Randall, 56; A. Larsen, 47; .1 Hughes, 40; Airs. E. AL Waterson, 37; Mrs. N. Waterson, 28; J. Seliricber, 25; J. Calpin, 22. The first nine were declared elected and the candidates returned thanks. Air. Shields said he was opposed to the raising of the school age and would do his best to have il brought back to five. At the meeting of the committee immediately after the election Mr. Shields was elected chair man and Air. C, Guilder secretary and treasurer. It was agreed to meet on the first Alonday in the month. CASE OF THEFT. At the Magistrate’s Court John Henry Watson was charged with the theft of a plane and a wood rubber of the value .of 265. The accused pleaded guilty. Constable Shields said the theft was a mean one and was of a type fairly common in the district, but very hard to detect. Tho young man got into a factory. An employee happened to be outside and he thought he heard someone inside and made investigation and found the plane missing. There was a previous conviction against the accused who had been on probation, the period having just elapsed. Accused had nothing to say and the magistrate convicted and sentenced him to three weeks in Wanganui gaol.
