GERMAN SHIPPING
MUCH IDLE TONNAGE. COMPANIES REDUCE CAPITAL. BERLIN. June 28. Forty-eight ships, totalling 238.000 torts, one quarter of the North German Lloyd's total tonnage, are laid up. The balance-sheet shows a net loss of £458,000. The Hamburg-Amerika Line’s loss is £23,809. In order to rover the losses both companies are writing off two-thirds of their capital.
