Constable M. Roach, is relieving Constable Fitzgibbons, who is at pres ent in Feilding, where his brother, Senior-Sergeant Fitzgibbons, died recently. Mr. H J. Purcell, of the Government, Audit Office, Wanganui, is visiting Hawera in connection with the annual audit of local body and Gov ernment office accounts. The Rev. G. Budd, superintendent of the Home Missions of the Presby terian Church of New Zealand, is at present staying in Wanganui, and is the guest of the Rev. and Mrs. G. 8King, Wanganui East. Mr. C. S. Martin, of To Ngutu-o-te manu, was appointed manager of the Whenuakura Dairy Factory yesterday. There were 50 applicants for the position from a wide district. Mr. Martin was formerly manager of the Joll branch factory at To Ngutu. Mr. W. Collings, who has been on the staff of Parliament House for many years, has retired. He joined the staff of the Legislative Depart’ment in 19u6, and held various positions until he rose to the position of second clerk assistant of the House of Representatives in 1920. Mr. Collings was in the New Zealand Rifle Brigade during the war and was twice wounded. His birthplace was Charleston, on the West Coast. James Thomas Harvey, pioneer of road transport in Hawke’s Bay, and with perhaps one exception the earliest New Zealand road transport proprietor, died on Thursday, aged 69, says a Napier message. Mr Harvey came to New Zealand 57 years ago. Until two years ago he had been managing-director of the Hawke’s Bay Motor Co., an old established firm, which under his direction had gradually absorbed the majority of coaching services in Hawke’s Bay. Mr Harvey leaves a widow and family of three sons and four daughters. Mr. R. N. Carrington, of the Austialian United Press, Limited, was a passenger by Monowai, which arrived in Wellington from Sydney on Monday. Ho will join Rhe Aorangi at Auckland on June 28 and will proceed to the Ottawa Conference. Mr. Carrington is a grandson, of Mr. O. Carrington, who, with his brother, Mr. F. A. Carrington, founded New Plymouth. ■ Mr. Wellington Carrington, father of the visitor, left New Zealand in 1878 and later became a rail way engineer of note in Australia. He rose to acting-engineer-in-chief in Western Australia. A sister is Mrs. 0. Samuel, widow of the late Hon. OSamuel, M.L.C., New 'Plymouth.
