DUBLIN SENSATION

MINISTERS LEAVE DANCE. GOVERNOR GENERAL PRESENT. A sensation has been caused by an incident which occurred at a ball given in Dublin recently by M. Alphand, French Minister to the Free State, » and Mine. Alphand. It was the first dance to be held at the Legation since the wedding recently of the Minister’s daughter. The function was also in the nature of a farewell party to the Minister’s son Andre, who is leaving for France to enter on his military service. The incident occurred when the dance had been some time in progress. The Governor-General and Mrs. McNeill. arrived and the band played the “Soldiers’ Song,” the Free State National anthem. Two members of the Government then left the dance. The Irish Press, the organ of the Fianna Fail Party, after including m the list of those present. Mr. S. T. O’Kelly, vice-president of the executive council and Minister of Local Government and Public Health, and Mr. F. Aiken, Minister of Finance, ftates: “The Governor-General then arrived. This was a surprise and Mr. O’Kelly and Mr. Aiken left.” Much discussion has followed in political and social circles in Dublin and it. is being wondered whether it is the deliberate policy of the Government not to attend any functions at which the Governor-General is present Tt is regretted that the incident should have occurred at the French Legation, as the Minister and his family are most popular.
