THE TOWN BOARD. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Hunterville Town Board was held on Tuesday night. Present were: Crs. L. J. Thompson (chairman), A. A. Gordon, R. K. Simpson. W. ,T. Whyte, C. Stratford, H. W. Dillon. Water Supply. A report from Mr J. S. Deem on the auxiliary water scheme was before the board. The report was on the lines of verbal reports already received and in accordance with the work already done in supplying the town with an emergency water supply. The report continued further in case the board desired to make the pumping scheme a permanent one. The cost of this was estimated at £lO5O. this including replacing the present J Jin .pipes with 4in pipes. The 'chairman said Mr Deem would visit Hunterville shortly to advise on the spillway. In the meantime it was decided to arrange a rent for the use oT the present pump which is working quite satisfactorily. In reply to a question the chairman said if the larger scheme was proceeded with a poll of ratepayers would be necessary. Town Hall Talkies The chairman reported that negotiations had been proceeding and indications were that satisfactory tenders would be forthcoming when applications were invited for the lease of the Town Hall for the showing of talkies. The Rabbit Board was granted use of the meeting room for meetings in the day time at a flat rate of 30s per annum. Advice was received that a pool for insurance of unemployed workers had been established and local bodies would have their share of the premiums deducted. Accounts amounting to £5B 6s fid were passed for payment. The balance-sheet was laid on the table. The Works Committee wns authorised . to arrange for a supply of pit metal. PUKEROA HAR'd UP DANCE. On Saturday night. Pukeroa held s 1 most enjoyable dance, “a hard-up dance” in aid of the ball fund, in Mr Armit’s woo’shed. Many rags and tetters were to be seen, silk stockings well worn and torn, dresses that had seen better days and dungarees with more patches than denim, formed the dress for the evening. The function proved a great success, visitors being present from Papanui, Pohonui and Hunterville. The music supplied by Messrs Hartley and Loveridge was enjoyed by all who joined in community singing led by Mrs Armit and Mr Brooks,

Brooks—a bunch of carrots and a similar prize for the men was awarded to Mr I. MeNaught—a pair of bootlaJees. Mr 8. Brooks gave two very humourous songs which proved popular. Mr G.
