CHILDREN OF UNEMPLOYED Assistance for unemployed parents iu equipping their children with school books was asked for at a meeting of the Wanganui Unetnoloymert Commit tee yesterday. Mr. T. Dix said that the matter had been put to him by some of tile men and that he under stood thiu Mi. W. H Swanger, seentary of the Wanganui Education Board, had said that in such eases th« parents could write to the headmaster end the books would be provided fte* of cost. Air. A. E. Halligan hoped that the Looks would not be a charge on th’’ school committees. It was stated that the bookj wer»‘ paid for by the department. All. E. O’Meara said that m ’he past books of children passing on to another standard were collected at the end of the year and handed on to those taking their places. He con sidcred that more could be done in that direction in order to help those chillrrn whose parents were poorly placed.
