ASSISTANCE FOR NEEDY

MRS. DEXTER’S WORK f*Many people in Wanganui have given assistance in various ways to those in need, and what help it has been,” said Mrs. Dexter, yesterday in the course of a conversation on the present problem of unemployment and distress* “I’ve had great help all along and it has been wonderful, but we have such a lot of new poor just now who do not care to ask for anything, and these are the ones who need . help,” stated Mrs. Dexter. The pupils of Clifton House School have again shown a very fine spirit in helping the needy. Instead of holding their usual tea party at the end of last term, they decided to spend the money helping those who are less fortunate than themselves, so they made up parcels of groceries nod gave them to Mrs. IDexter for distribution. It is wonderful the help that the pupils have given, they have a sale of work each year, and tor the last three years we understand that the proceeds have been used for the distressed and needy. “I think it is a lovely spirit,” said Mrs. Dexter. “I reserved a small fund to provide small comforts for an invalid lady I go to see every week. Such things as a hot water bottle, fruit, etc., are among the comforts supplied to the invalid, who knows they are provided by the pupils.” “There is urgent need for clothing of al] kinds to supply the wants of the distressed and I am making an appeal for warm garments,” added Mrs. Dexter.
