Offer of Land

An offer of land which gives promise of a fairly rich supply of metal has been made to the Wanganui Ci y Council by the Guardian Trust. The property in question is located behind Messrs.' Kempt home Prosser and Co.’* works at Aramoho. At a meeting of the council last night the matter was referred to the Works Committee Street Collection Day When an application from Mrs. J. J. Scott, Wanganui East, on behalf of the Sunshine Club, to hold a street collection in the interests of charitj on July 1, came before the City Coundil last night, the Mayor (Mr. N. G Armstrong), said that there was a central committee dealing with the city’s charitable effort. He would move that the council agree to a street day being held in July, as that committee decides. This was carried. Gordon Park When an area of bush at Gordon Park was declared a public domain, control was vested in the Wanganui City Council. The period of that control is duo to expire and the council was asked last night by the city solicitor as to whether it was agreeable to taking the land over for a further term. The Mayor (Mr. N. G. Armstrong), said that somebody had to take control and he presumed it was the council’s job. He moved accord ingly and the motion was carriou. Charge for Water A charge for water laid on to sec tions in Wanganui City is to be made iu future in cases where the land has reverted to the Crown. The State Advances Department and the Com mission er of Crown Lands have both advised the council of their consent to a sum of £2 per annum being col lected from the properties in question By making this charge the council is in some measure reqpmpensod for rates lost through the Crown’s immunity from payment when mortgagors fail to meet, their obligations.
