THE BATTLE OF JUTLAND
-pO-DAY is the anniversary of the Battle of Jutland. The hero of that engagement is Admiral Viscount Jellicoe. The results were satisfactory in so far as the outcome of the battle was concerned, in that the German High Seas Fleet never again left its harbourage, and the British Fleet remained in supreme command of the surface of the seas. The submarine menace had to be dealt with subsequently, and .it was eventually brought Snto subjection in large measure. But unfortunately the hero of the Jutland Battle never came into his own. The showman, of the piece, Admiral Beattie, the man who really failed in his objective—namely to maintain contact with the German Fleet—gained the kudos and got the prize. But then cvCn Nelson owed a lot to self-adver-tisement.
