IN A FLAT NOW

"GHOST” IN MAYFAIR. There is said to be a ghost in the heart of the West End of London. It may be because old castles with oak-panelled rc '« and halls are harder to find nowadays. Anyway, in a town flat in Shepherd Market, Mayfair, a ghost it is declared, regularly strides up and down the stairs, vys the Daily Express. The flat is ocupied by Miss Beatrix Thompson, a young British actress. Her guests have on many occasions been mystified by eerie noises. Psychic visitors have declared that tho ghost is the spirit of someone who once lived in the building and had a terrific quarrel there.

“When I first camo here about two years ago I was terrified to go upstairs, for always there was that something tramping up and down the steps,” Miss Thomson said lately. “He—l feel it is a he—sometimes moves noisily about in a small kitchen opening from a landing on the stairs, but he never comes up the second stair to my studio. “Several times I have hoard the ghost entering my kitchen by the window, and heard him striding down the stairs, yet the kitchen door Las remained closed. His steps echo as if from uncovered wood, although the stairs are heavily carpeted. “I am afraid of him no longer, but I hope he doesn’t decide to leave his stairs and come up to my bedroom. Then I would be terrified again.” Miss Thomson has invited f nds to her flat on various occasions in an effort to elucidate the mystery. Sir Sefton Brancker was there at a party shortly before the disaster to the RIO!, in which ' - lost ’'is life. He heard queers noises from the kitchen, bi found nothing on investigating.
