RACKETEER’S DEATH
FIVE REVOLVER SHOTS MALTESE’S CAREER ENDS (San Francisco Press Broadcast.) SAN FRANCISCO, May 19. Five bullets from tho revolver of an unknown assailant ended the criminal career of Lugi Malvese last night —five bullets fired, the police declared, by some supposed victim of the, North Beach shakedown racketeer. Malvese, holder of a long police record, died on Columbus Avenue, near Filbert Street, in the Mafia district. The police knew that Malvese was driving, his automobile, that a pedestrian signalled him, that he slowed down, and that tho pedestrian leaped to the running board and fired five times in quick succession. Malvese lurched to t\e pavement and fell dead, and his moving automobile ploughed into a street car, slightly injuring a passenger.
