A STAR’S WARDROBE

Miss Janet Gaynor, who is at present being received with great enthusiasm on her first visit to England, has very simple tastes in clothes. She explains that her wardrobe is very different from what one would probably think. It has not been built on the world’s conception of the movie star. For instance, her most prized possessions are not the expensive ones, and first favourite is a beach outfit consisting of a pair of old sailor pants, and a shirt sweater that has seen many years of wear. Going to and fro from the studio daily this artist always wears sports skirts and sweaters. Miss Gaynor is a “jumper addict,” and revels in them. In the expensive type, she wears soft camel’s hair mixture, in natural and sand colours, and indulges in cheaper styles for boating and mountain snows. Browns and blue are her favourite colours, blue berets predominating for head gear, and she wears low-heeled Oxford shoes. The star’s formal wardrobe includes only three evening gowns, but good taste is certainly displayed in the colours. A golden brown Alencon lace frock has an underdress of jonquil lame. Another is peach-toned chiffon trimmed with the same shade of Chantilly lace, and tho third a daffodilyellow georgette over egg yolk silk. The wraps to go with these gowns include a short ermine jacket of the Eton type, a green transparent velvet cape, and a daffodil chiffon velvet trimmed with mink fur. In this actress’ wardrobe are three semi-formal dinner gowns, simplicity snowing in a peach taffeta, with full circular skirt, a cream Alencon lace over a satin crepe slip, with large sash ribbon how in turquoise blue on the left side, and a pale pink soft satin. Shoes always match her gowns, and are only medium high-heeled. Miss Gaynor always wears chiffon stockings and white gloves.
