CUP OF THOMAS A’BECKETT

There came into the market in London recently a wonderful ivory drinking cup said to have belonged to Thomas a’Beckett. In the sixteenth century it was bequeathed by Sir Edward Howard to Queen Catharine of Aragon, who seems to have had it further decorated with precious metal and jewels into a vessel of surpassing beauty. It belonged to the Duke of Norfolk.
