BULLS

DAIRY FACTORY REPORTS. Reports from factories in this district show that the volume of cream and milk handled during Djecember was, in most cases, below that of the previous month. The decline has come a month earlier than usual, owing to the dry season and the shortage of feed generally. Growth of pastures was slow until last month, but high winds and adverse climatic conditions have retarded progress. Lower production and lower prices have made the present a particularly hard season, and as hay crops are light, there is likely to be a shortage of feed during the winter. The Rangitikei Dairy Company’s output of butter for December showed an increase of over six tons, and the quality was up to the standard. The Kairanga Dairy Coy.’s three factories (Kairanga, Longburn and Aokautere) produced 120 boxes of butter, and 70 cheeses daily, an increase on last season, and the grading points were high. The Awahuri Dairy Coy. also showed an increase, manufacturing 185 boxes of butter daily, and the grade was 95. The Makowhai Factory is making 28 export cheeses daily, and last montn handled 132 tons of cheese. The quality is good, but supplies are falling oif. The Rongotea Dairy Coy. manufactured 112 tons of butter during December, a slight increase, but the high quality has been maintained. The New Zealand Farmers’ Dairy Union report that their output this season is considerably higher than that of last season, the increase being 25 tons. The daily output is 120 boxes of butter, and the grade 941. THE PICTURES.
