Speaking to a Post representative, Mr. Marlin said he had been practis ing as a solicitor in the London district for about 45 years. He was still practising, but “only for the purpose of convenience.” Mr. Martin has done a considerable amount, of travelling. “Last winter.” he said, '*l spent go ing right round Africa. It was a slow boat, but I selected it for that purpose. My main object in making these trip* is really to avoid the English winter, which tries me considerably these days.” Mr. Martin intends spending about a fortnight in Rotorua and the thermal G : striet. He has not visited New Zealand previously, and is eager to see th»geysers and hot springs. ‘‘After making a brief tour of this country,” he added. **T am going on to Sydney, and then Home via the Cape. The Sue? Canal route is a little toe warm for my liking. ” Conditions in England, said Mr. Martin. were very unsatisfactory. The trouble at Home—in fact, with the British Empire—seemed to be a war.l of firmness; in other words, a want of courage. Looking out over the rail of the Tainui, Mr. Martin admired the harbeur. “It is beautiful,” he said. “Beauti fully situated, and it is more landlocked than I expected to find it.”
