WANGANUI ASSOCIATION ENTRIES FOR REGATTA. POSITIONS FOR RACES DRAWN. A meeting of the Wanganui Rowing Association was held last evening. The following members were present: Messrs A. Gray (chairman), W. Sharpe, H. Sharpe, A. Kitchen, H. Cooper, A. Weir, E. Gull cry, D. Corby, P. Evans, D. Holmes, V. Brookie, L. Haywood. C. Aitken T. Walsh, C. Breed and A. Osborne. Entries for the Wanganui regatta, to be held on the Wanganui River on Saturday, January 23, were received and positions for the races were drawn. Following are the entries in their positions from the town bank side of the river. Somme Parade: — Maiden Heavyweights: Wanganui No. 1 (1), Union No. 2 (2), New Plymouth (3), Aramoho (4), Wanganui No. 2 (5), Petone (6), Star (7), Union No. 1 (8). Maiden Single Sculls: Wanganui (1), Wellington No. 2 (2), Wellington No. 1 (3), Union (4), Petone (5), Aramoho (6). Welterweight Fours: Star (1). Aramoho (2), Union No. 1 (3), Petone (4), Clifton (5), Union No. 2 (6). Senior Fours: Union (1), Petone (2), Aramoho (3). Junior Double Sculls: Wanganui (1), Petone (2), Union (3), Aramoho (4). Maiden Lightweight Fours (10st. and under): Union No. 2 (1), Aramoho No. 1 (2), Wanganui No. 1 (3), Star (4), New Plymouth (5), Aramoho No. 2 (6), Wanganui No. 2 (7), Union No. 1 (8). Senior Singles (handicap): New Plymouth (1). Union No. 1 (2), Wanganui No. 1 (3), Union No. 2 (4), Wanganui No. 3 (5), Wanganui No. 2 (6), Aramoho (7). Youths’ Fours: Union No. 2 (11, Wellington (2), Wanganui No. 2 (3), Union No. 1 1(4), Wanganui No. 1 (5), Star (6), Aramoho (7), Clifton (8). junior Singles: Petone (1). Wanganui (2), Union (3), Aramoho (4). Junior Fours (Clinker): Wanganui (1), Clifton (2), Star (3), Petone (4), Union (5), New Plymouth (6), Aramoho (7). Entries for the regatta, therefore, total 61 for ten events. Last year for eleven events there were 57 entries, which shows that the entries this year are considerably better than those of last year. On the request of the Clifton Club, the Youths’ Fours will be placed eighth on the programme instead of third as previously, the Welterweight Fours taking their place as third on the programme. A letter was received from the Wanganui River Carnival Committee asking that crews compete at the regatta to be held on Anniversary Day, Friday, January 22. It was regretted that the invitation had been received too late for the association to arrange for crews to compete. Constable Willetts is to be asked to take charge of the umpire’s launch. By seven votes to four it was decided that no band should be asked to play at the regatta, on the score of expense. It was suggested that new staging be erected at Aramoho to obviate crowding when the crews are embarking. Mr Gray spoke against the suggestion. He asked that all club captain should instil into crews competing the necessity for embarking as quickly as possible. The Wanganui Harbour Board is to be asked to grant the association permission to control the regatta course on Saturday, January 23.
