ACTIVE COMPETITION. : OPENING RATES MAINTAINED. Received Jan. 14, 6 p.m. LONIDON, Jan. 13. At yesterday’s wool sales approximately 5400 bales were sold. New Zealand greasy crossbreds, Chcsterhope, 9Jd, 6jd, BB 9|d, 7d. Scoured: Waterpark, 14}d, 14{d. Competition was active from both Yorkshire and the Continent and of fcrings were well cleared at full opening rates. New Zealand halfbred slipes, Eclipse lid, 104 d. HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT The Department of Agriculture nan * received the following cablegram, dater 13th inst., from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:— . Wool sales opened Tuesday with large attendance and brisk competition, ■ mainly from Yorkshire and Germany. : Bulk of offerings sold readily at firm prices, generally unchanged, compared with closing rates of last series. 153,000 : bales available for series, of which 80.000 are Australian, 65,000 New Zealand and 3000 South American. i ■ ■
