BEEF AT WESTFIELD

RECORD FOR THE SEASON

Tho highest individual prices for heavyweight prime bullocks this season were recorded at tho Westfield fat stock sale, two drafts of choice steers making up £l4s ss, whrch is 17s above the next best price to date. Values on a 1001 b. basis were fully up to late quotations, finest quality ox beef selling at 30s per lOOlbs., choice grade 27s to 295, secondary and plain 24s to 265, prime young cow and heifers 26s to 28s, ordinary cow beef 20s to 255. Extra heavy prime steers ranged from £l2 to £l4 ss, heavy £lO 15s to £ll 17s 6d, lighter £9 to £lO .12s 6d, light £7 10s to £8 17s 6d, small and unfinished £6 5s to £7 7s 6d, extra heavy prime young cows and heifers £7 10s to £9 17s 6d, heavy £6 10s to £7 7s 6d, lighter £5 5s to £6 7s 6d, other killable cows £3 10s to £5 2s 6d. The yarding was less than the average, good quality cows and heifers being scarce. Sheep camo forward in large numbers and sold at late values, extra heavy prime woolly wethers selling to 20s, shorn 17s 6d to 19s, best woolloy owes 14s to 16s, shorn 13s.

Extra supplies of spring lambs sold at easier rates, values being from 3s to 4s a head lower. Extra prime lambs made to 20s, others 7s 6d to 18s 9d.

Competition was only fair for calves which sold at reduced rates. Runners made from 60s to 100 s. heavy vealers 70s to 78s, medium 54s to 655, light 45s to 51 s.

A heavy offering of fat pigs was penned and prices slumped. Extra heavy baconers made 595, heavy 52s to 565, light and medium 40s to 495, heavy porkers 35s to 375. light and medium 28s tn 335, stores 10s to 275.
