GAIETY AT PATEA

THE JUBILEE BALL

AN UNQUALIFIED SUCCESS Never before has the Town Hall presented such a beautiful scene as that of last night when tho Jubilee Ball was held. Streamers of gold, lemon and blue, coloured lights of gold, red and blue, and large paper butterflies had transformed tho walls and ceiling into a veritable fairyland. The committee had worked unceasingly to make the lighting effects, and last night the results of these efforts were praised many times over by thoso who attended. Alternately the hall was lit by various coloured lights, which emphasised the beautiful frocks. For the arrangements of this part of tho festivities Alessrs F. Locker, R. Haddow and J. Cunningham were responsible. Alusic by Wills’ Melody Makers, from Hawera, greatly added to the enjoyment of the dancers, supplying all the latest dance tunes in their popular and rhythmic style. Upstairs tho ladies’ committee, under tho leadership of the Alayoress, Airs Ramsbottom, had worked with a will,

with tho result that tho supper arrangements were capably and successfully carried through. Tho supper tables were artistically decorated with Iceland poppies, brown wallflowers and brown birch, while tho mantelpieces were decorated with largo vases of cherry and apple blossom, making the whole room a veritable bower of flowers. This artistic effect was the work of Miss B. Gibson, who carried it out in her usual artistic manner.
