LAWN TENNIS

WANGANUI EAST CLUB. A particularly large and enthusiastic crowd of tennis enthusiasts was present at the above courts last Saturday, when the president, Air E. Walpole, declared the courts open for the present season. Apologies for absence were received from Air. and Airs. N. Baiu, and Air. and Airs. F. J. Walker. The two latter were amongst the founders cf the club, and have done a lot towards putting it in its present post;i»i. 'lke hope was expressed that Mr?. Walker would speedily be restored to health again. Air. J. Anderson, another benefactor, was able to bo present having almost recovered Lis good non*a. He congratulated the club on the numbers present at its working bees and the general appearance of the grounds. I’he many visitors from various clubs were most appreciative of the dryness of the courts generally. The ‘weather was ideal and afternoon tea was served in the tea kiosk, which is such an asset to the club, and which can seat nca'lv 100 persons at a .inic. General play was the order for the day, and was much enjoyed. Members are asked to hand in the names of new members joining, so that the club’s activities can go forward without delay.
