GOLF NOTES All sections of the "knock-Guv competition must be finalised this week. No extension of time will be allowed. If games are not played, the player with the most wins in each section by the week-end will be declared the winner of the section. The following are the results of championship matches played recently. Seniors Semi-finals.—J. P. Mortland defeated K. Joblin, 4 and 3. J. Evans defeated R. McClure, s and 1. Mortland and Evans will meet in the final over 36 holes.

Middleweight.—Addis beat Coutts 1 up, and meets the winner of the Dr Hay—Trigg match in the final.

Junior Championship

Leahy beat L. Bradley, 3 aud 2. Schofield beat O ’Callaghan, 1 up at the 20th. Leahy and Schofield will play off in the final. J. E. Hamill has reduced his handicap to 18. thereby entering A grade. J. P. Mortland left on Monday to compete in the New Zea land championships at Shirley links, Christchurch. Mortland has been playing well lately and the result of his performances at Christchurch will be awaited with interest. SCHOOL AFFAIRS. The headmaster’s report presented at the monthly meeting of the Taihapo {District High Schol Committee on Monday evening stated that some stain and shellac was required for the pupils’ desks. Repairs to the school furniture was being constantly carried out, and a few tools were required for this purpose.

The portion of the school ground below the new 'fence has not sufficient earth on the papa to allow grass to grow successfully. As a wide drain is required in the horse paddock the earth from this could be utilised for top-dressing.

The storm-water drain on the west side of the school is blocked and requires attention. This was mentioned at las! meeting.

It would be advisable to ask the board what chance there is of the secondary school being remodelled. Teaching facilities at the secondary school are most unsatisfactory.

Th’ secondary department pupils were inspected by Mr. Merrington ou October 1, with very satisfactory re suits.—The report was adopted.
