YEARLINGS AT WESTMERE

DRAFT FOR TRENTHAM SALES INTERESTING BREEDING Among the yearlings at Westmere this year is an own brother to The Dimmer, who established a great record in winning the Sydney Cup and the three classic w.f.a. distance races at Kandwick last Easter. The Dimmer is by Spearhead, a son of Spearmint, while his dam is the imported English mare. After Glow, by Sunstar. After Glow was bred by His Majesty the King and is now among the matrons included in the Westmere Stud. Mr John Donald also has an own sister to Eaglet in the brown filly by Chief Ruler from Dovelet. The latter mare was added to his stud last season. There is also included in the Westmere draft for the yearling sales an own sister to La Justice, with which filly Harry Telford won two of the early two-year-old races in Victoria last spring, including the richest two-year-old race in that State, the Marybyrnong Plate, which is worth 2167 sovs. to the winner. One of the most attractive Chief Ruler colts that Mr Donald has yet bred is an own brother to Michael Angelo. This chestnut colt is out of Comedy Queen, a beautifully bred mare by Comedy King from Tandale. Comedy Queen was secured in Australia by Mr Donald. She was one of the best fillies of the sales, but through falling on the road met with an accident and eventually it proved impossible to race her. Tandale, her dam, was specially imported for the stud. She romes from a great English family, being by Winstanley from Tangerina, by William the Third from Lady Disdain, three-quarter sister to Polymelus, champion ire of England on five occasions. Lady Disdain is by Bend Or from Maid Marian, a halfsister to La Fleche, the dam of John o’ Gaunt. As Comedy King mares have already produced some very high class horses, it can very readily be claimed that Comedy Queen is one of the best brood mares that Mr Donald has in his noted stud. This year Mr Donald will also have yearlinjs by Chief Ruler and Diacquenod from his imported mares, Merry Twinkle, Baylock, Rapide, Prophet’s Mark, Pebble IL, Toiling Tessie and Timid. In addition to the ten yearlings by Chief Ruler from Westmere, Mr A. Alexander, of New Plymouth, is also having prepared at thii Westmere stud two fillies by Diacquenod and Chief Ruler from Wake Up sad Silver Link respectively.
