LEAGUE TOURING TEAM WIN FOR SYDNEY SUBURBS. MATCH AT HAMILTON. [ Per Press Association. ] HAMILTON, Oct. 14. In a bright game under ideal conditions Sydney suburbs defeated South Auckland at Hamilton to-day by 23 to 14 before an estimated attendance of 2000.
J. Whorskey drew first blood for South Auckland when put over a penalty after the kick-off. A few minutes later he repeated the performance. Paillas opened Eastern Suburbs’ score with a successful free kick. Tottey scored a smart try near the corner flag, Brown failing with the kick. Following the kick-off Brown ran up the line and evaded tacklers to touch down behind the posts, Pope converting. Just before half-time Whorskey put over a third penalty. Early in the second spell the ball went to Tottey, who scored well out. The kick failed. Paillas was the next to add to the visitors’ tally and went across, converting his own try. Following the kick-off Welch sent Paki over for a smart try which was converted. A Sydney forward rush culminated in Pearce scoring and Paillas converting. Shortly before time Whorskey went over near the corner, making the final score 23 to 14 in Sydney’s favour.
