The chairman reported that he had not been successful in holding a meeting of the Dental Clinic Committee, the country members being unable to attend. Two quarter’s fees were now due. He thought it advisable levy country schools committees with their proportion and ask for cheques. It had been suggested that the local school adopt a card system one shilling a quarter being collected for each child treated. Hunterville’s share -was £l3. Dr. Pitcaithly said he did not like the suggestion as some parents could not afford to pay. It would be better to wipe out the clinic altogether. He was opposed to the scheme altogether. As far as actual results the scheme had not proved itself. The regular use of tooth brushes would be as beneficial. The percentage of pupils treated was remarkably small. Mr. Dukeson thought the nurses saw that teeth were kept cleaner. The chairman said the scheme should have an educational value for future care. Dr. Pitcaithly said it was peculiar that people who took the least care had the best teeth. Mr. Cunningham said the treatment was no regular enough to do much good. The chairman said the dental clinic was established and could not be dropped now. Ir reply to Mr. Cunningham Dr. Pitcaithly said the treatment was doing no harm, but those who received treatment should pay for it. Messrs O ’Brien and Cunningham moved that the committee find its allocation of £l3. Pitcaithly moved an amendment that the children be charged 2s a half year for treatment. Seconded by Mr. Dukeson.
