OBITUARY

MR ARTHUR HARRISON The death is recorded of Air A. Harrison, chief main layer of the Wanganui City Council Gas Department, who passed away suddenly on Alonday morning. The late Afr Harrison was born in Wanganui 58 years ago and up to the date of his death resided in Wikitoria Road, Putiki. Ho wa c an ox-member of the Wanganui Rifle Volunteers from whom he received the Long Service (12 years) Aledal in 1909. lie was a member of the South African Veterans’ Association, having served in South Africa with the New Zealand Forces and being awarded the Queen’s Medal with four clasps. Ho went to South Africa as a member of the 7th New Zealand Contingent. Air Harrison was in tho employ of the gas department for 26 years, having served in the mainlaying branch of the council’s activities with such success that he was given control of this department. His record is one of hon est toil and conscientious service. He was of quiet disposition and his kindly manner and gcntlcman’incss made him a popular figure in the city. His fel-low-workmen speak in glowing term? of his ability and honesty and his desire at all times to extend the helping hand to those less fortunate than himself. His loss will be keenly felt in the council as during his lifetime of service with the gas department he aecumu’ated a wealth of loval knowledge which is impossible of replacement. Ho leaves a widow and eight; children the youngest of which is 15 years of age. Mr Harrison also had three married sisters and Alcssrs Jas Harrison (Wanganui) and Joseph Karri-on (Oamaru) are brothers of the deceased.
