SCHOOL COMMITTEE. Tho usual monthly meeting of the Ohingaiti School Committee was held in tho school on Monday evening last, October 12. Present.—Messrs A. Charles, chairman, J. B. McKnight; secretary, T. L. Hammond; A. Mercer, and the headmaster, Mr. W. H. Scott. An apology for absence was received from Mr. W. Fenton who is recuperating after his recent illness. Correspondence was received from tho Education Board in reference to the Emergency Wages Tax on employees’ wages. Accounts to the value of £7 10s 4d were passed for payment. Progress was reported un the work being done in preparing for school garden plots the section made a\ailable by the generosity of Mr. C. Stent. The secretary reported that the ground should be ready for dividing into plots at the end of this week or the beginning of next. The committee inspected the newly purchased pictures which have now been framed, also the new books for the school library. Both pictures and books were the subject of very favourable comment. Boys’ and Girls’ Agricultural Club. The chairman reported that arrangements had been made with Mr. C. Stent whereby an are? of land sufficient for the number of plots required for a full entry for the boys’ and Girls’Agri, cultural Club had been made available for use. Thu ground was in course of preparation for the forming of plots and had been fenced. The chairman moved and Mr. McKnight seconded that the committee award a first prize to the pupil gaining the highest number of points for the school, and a second prize for the pupil gain ing tho next highest number of points for the school.—Carried. It was decided to set aside a sum of money for the purchase of the necessary trophies. OHINGAITI TENNIS CLUB. A working bee was held recently to prepare the court for the re-opening which will be held on Saturday next, Octobo- 17. A pleasant social gatber- ; ing is anticipated, rn<l visitors are expected from surrounding clubs. Entries for the combined doubles competition close with tho secretary, Miss A. G.
